28th November 2018 – From Dr Cameron

I wish to let you know that I have come to a very difficult decision to step away from my orthodontic practice
that I set up in Adelaide in 1999 and move into my retirement.

In order to maintain the uninterrupted continuation of your orthodontic care for you and your family, I can highly recommend Dr Andrew Toms and his son Dr Simon Toms. Drs Andrew and Simon Toms are both fully qualified orthodontic specialists and will start working from each of the three locations of Cameron Orthodontics at the beginning of 2019.

All of our staff that you are already familiar with, including Michelle, Carolyn, Amrit and Caryn will remain and continue to work for Orthodontic Smile Practice into the future to assist with your continuing care.

Drs Andrew and Simon Toms run the family-owned and operated “Orthodontic Smile Practice” and already have several locations in Adelaide and the Northern Territory. Both are very caring, calm, meticulous and patient-focused orthodontists. Both are thorough, practical, and empathetic. Their goal is to continue the quality of care for you as a valued patient and family.

Dr Andrew Toms and Dr Simon Toms make an excellent team; combining experience, expertise and up-to-date knowledge and skills. Their orthodontic education is impressive.

If you would like to know more about Dr Andrew and Dr Simon Toms, you can visit their website at www.orthosmilepractice.com.au

To ensure a smooth transition I will introduce to you Dr Simon Toms in the coming months and will assist in any way I can.  I am confident you will be cared for and pleased with Dr Toms and his team.

Kind regards,

John Cameron

At Cameron Orthodontics we aim to fulfil each individuals orthodontic and oral health needs by educating and providing orthodontic knowledge and treatment by people who care, promoting Orthodontic excellence for all ages at our Modbury, North Adelaide and Broken Hill Offices from a caring, innovative and professional team.

We adopt an individual approach tailored to each person’s and family’s own unique needs.

We do this by using an approach and process of Shared Decision Making aiming to provide care patients need and want.

Shared Decision Making is at the heart of patient centred care which is a two-way process wherein the patient and Dr Cameron share information and the responsibility for decision making with support from Dr Cameron.

We work together to share information about options aiming to reach mutual agreement on the best course of action. Sometimes the best course of action may be to monitor a situation over time and tailor commencing treatment to the optimal age for each person.

Shared decision making involves a number of steps that we walk through with you, firstly to identify any problems or concerns, present the pros or cons of any options, clarify what your preferences, present the best available evidence and make recommendations, and clarify your understanding.

Before making a decision we like you to have the time to reflect on the initial consultation, and a follow-up appointment is made to make a decision to either start treatment or to defer till another review period tailored to suit individual growth needs.

What’s the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist?

Orthodontists like Dr Cameron are dental specialists. They specialise in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dental and facial irregularities to help correctly align teeth, bites and jaws, including straightening teeth. Did you know that orthodontists complete an additional three years of university training, on top of their general dental degree? - click on the video link below to find out more.
